Raks Sharki or Belly Dancing is a path anyone can begin at any age.
Its movement is very gentle on the body and can be practiced throughout one's life.
The instruction offers an opportunity to learn the graceful dance movements that create and release energy from within one's spiritual center. As the dance is learned, the music is translated into expressive movements. Relaxation and stretches are incorporated in warm-up and cool-down exercises. A dancer can easily progress at their own pace. There are many reasons why Belly Dancers love dancing. Many participate in the dance as an exercise outlet because it is very efficient at toning muscle combinations that most people do not commonly use in everyday life. Others enjoy the dance for its creative and spiritual energy, and appreciate the joy that comes from performing. For whatever reason one may want to participate, all ages and body types are welcome to join in on the celebration and comradery of the dance. Loose, comfortable clothing is recommended. |
